First Post: Introduction to Me.

Welcome to Bring on the Reviews!

My name is Dwight and I love movies!

I've thought about topics I should cover for my first post and I finally decided on an introduction.

I'm an avid movie watcher with a love for action and comedy movies. My deep passion for movies made me want to create a blog about movie reviews.

The very first movie I remember watching was The Goonies. It was directed by Richard Donner who's best known for directing movies like Superman, Scrooged, and the Lethal Weapon series.

Quick Synopsis:
A group of kids living in Astoria, Oregon decide to go on one last adventure before possibly losing their families' homes. The main protagonist, Mikey, finds an old newspaper clipping, a map and a skull artifact relating to a rumor of a hidden pirate treasure in their neighborhood.

Mikey believing in the map takes the group on an adventure of a lifetime. They run into devious henchmen and a big guy named Sloth. To their delight the group finds the old pirate ship of One-Eyed Willie. They're excited to see gold and rubies everywhere. Unfortunately, the henchmen shows up and captures them. They're able to escape from the henchmen with the help of Sloth.

The parents afraid of what happened to their children end up on the beach with a police search party. At the end of the movie the group of "Goonies" save their families' homes with treasure found on the pirate ship.

My thoughts:
This movie is filled with mystery, comedy, romance, action and thrills. I would watch this movie each weekend when it came on TV during Saturday afternoons. For most of my childhood I would dream about joining the group of kids going on their grand adventure. They fought for a cause and went on to preserve their way of life. As I'm writing this post I can't help but think of "Goonies never die" and "Hey, you guys!"

Question of the Week: What's your favorite movie from your childhood? Why?

Have a great week readers!

  1. Excited about your blog, Dwight! So many great movies from my childhood, but the one that just jumped to mind is the original Mighty Ducks - I loved the movie, totally bought into the tug-on-your-heartstrings story of a ragtag underdog team coming together to triumph, the "we're getting awesome at this hockey thing through practice" montage, and the character arc of the a**hole lawyer turned all around good guy coach. Man I watched that movie a *lot* when I was a kid...quack...Quack...QUACK...QUACKQUACKQUACK!!!

  2. I had a series of favorite movies during childhood, and new titles cycled in as I got older. Shamefully, I was obsessed with the Olsen Twins from Full House to all of their corny movies. There was one movie, in particular, I enjoyed watching repeatedly: "To Grandmother's House We Go." I would probably watch it if it came on TV now.

  3. You both have great choices for childhood movies. When I think about the Mighty Ducks I would think about the flying V and how excited I would get when the camera panned out for that move. Now I can even remember the famous knuckle puck. Go Ducks!

    Thank you both for posting!

  5. The Goonies is a cult classic. They're even going to make a sequel to the movie.

The Sound of Music is a classic in its own right. The amount of memories associated with this movie would make everyone break out into song and dance.

If you have any movies you would like us to review send your request to bringonthereviews@gmail.com.

    Thanks for posting!
