Short Synopsis:

Imperial, Nebraska is about to be turned upside down with a recent event. Colton (Connor Corrum) is experiencing visions from heaven after his injury. His father, Todd Burpo (Greg Kinnear), is the local pastor and he's trying to make sense of what happened to his son. Is Colton really seeing heaven? Is Heaven for real?

** Warning, Possible Spoilers!!!! **

The Good:
  • The performance by Greg Kinnear was good. He showed levels to his character. Kinnear really did an amazing job with this role. You felt his pain after the baseball accident and Colton's surgery.
  • This movie had good visual effects. The scenes of heaven looked amazing.
The Bad:

The movie tried to pull on your heart string during the entire movie. It was a bit overused and turned into a movie that constantly pushed its thoughts into the audience. They should have dialed it down a little in the movie.
The plot of the movie was centered on the child and his heavenly experience. The movie felt like it should be a short film instead of a full length picture. They could have cut at least half of the movie and it would have made the movie more enjoyable.
The scene with the painter girl just felt like a misused scene. It really didn't serve any great purpose besides having another person with the same situation as Colton. If they had another person with the same situation then it shouldn't have shocked everyone to know that Colton is exhibiting the same thing. They could have Googled the events and realize Colton is telling the truth.

The Hypothetical:

It would be a different movie if Todd wasn't a pastor when the movie started and then became one after the events of his son's visions. There would be some kind of change. The story could show that he had a new found faith.

Question of the week: Who would you pick as the cast members of this film?

  1. Thanks for the review! I was worried that the movie would have been a bit much based on the previews. I agree it probably would be a better documentary. Who knows? I might still see it...maybe I'll wait for it to hit TV or Netflix.lol

    1. No problem Shalonda, a documentary would have worked well with this story. You should check it out, it's an ok movie.

      Thanks for reading.
